This low-rise school building is set at an individual site, away from the main building, to provide a specialized premises, dedicated solely to the kindergarten division. The limited plot expanse was a challenge for the requirements of an exclusive, out-of-the box, cost-effective Architecture, aimed to produce a special identity for the school, in the surrounding region.9 classrooms(3 sections x 3 classes) and dedicated spaces for common activities are planned in quite an interesting way. Spatial imagery is synonymous to the school’s vision, well-known for the unique, dedicated and personalized manner of teaching with a novel approach, to every individual student.
‘Singular level’ has been maintained, by making the use of staircase virtually non-existent through incorporation of a set of ramps. These ramps flow along the central atrium of the school providing access to all spaces, which are spread across sunken, regular and raised heights from the ground, ensuring ease of circulation for kids. Organic free flowing forms in earthy natural materials, minimize sharp corners. School entry is cave like; the central atrium has an open explorative quality while also being pausal and contemplative. A homely freedom is effervescent due to the non-directive character of the spaces. This aids in unhindered creative mental development, due to the unrestrictive nature of the tactile surfaces and it’s visual perception and further processing by the unconditioned brains and minds of the children.
Passive climate design strategies, an inseparable part of the building design, are put in places wind catchers and hot-air suction vents. Nature inclusivity into the experience of spaces is accomplished through large outdoor views and volumes opening out to greenery. A playful and stimulating environmentis set, by weaving uniquely shaped light well sand vibrantly colourful elements as part of the built fabric. The Architecture thus becomes an educational tool, partaking an active role every day, in the memories being formed.
